SUPERVISOR OF MAINTENANCE I – SAFETY HARBOR

SUMMARY

This position involves primary responsibility for the overall supervision and direction for general upkeep and maintenance of buildings, vehicles, equipment, and grounds of the Youth Ranch. The person filling this position is responsible for the supervision of Maintenance Department staff.

The Supervisor of Maintenance is expected to work within the philosophy, aims, goals, and operating procedures of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches.

The Supervisor of Maintenance is directly responsible to the Business Manager. Work performance is reviewed through supervisory conferences and annual performance evaluations.

OBJECTIVES

1. To assure that the Youth Ranch buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment are maintained in such a manner as to promote longevity and enhance agency image.

2. To provide leadership and supervision of personnel employed in the Maintenance Department.

3. To provide a teaching arena for youth involved in the work program within the Maintenance Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Responsible for ensuring that all buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment are maintained with quality care in an economic manner.

2. Responsible for maintaining current and accurate records of all maintenance repairs and work performed.

3. Responsible for ordering and picking up any parts needed for repair work on buildings, vehicles, and grounds, in accordance with the established purchasing policy.

4. Responsible for making periodic checks on new construction and reporting any problems to the supervisor.

5. Responsible for ensuring that buildings and vehicles are inspected on a monthly basis, making arrangements for repair work, either within the department or through the use of outside services.

6. Responsible for requesting bids on maintenance work, where applicable, and submitting to the supervisor.

7. Responsible for ensuring that the use of outside services is legitimate and that the work performed is acceptable.

8. Responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate relationships with vendors and suppliers within the community.

9. Responsible for assisting with non-cash donation pickups.

10. Responsible for coordinating the work program activity by youth within the department.

11. Responsible for assigning, supervising, and inspecting the work of Maintenance Department Staff, and assisting with completion of assignments as needed.

12. Ensures the procurement and purchasing of items for areas of responsibility in accordance with agency purchasing policy and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The person filling this position must be a high school graduate or vocational school graduate with two years experience in the maintenance field.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each area of responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

1. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the materials, methods, equipment and practices used in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment including: carpentry, electrical, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, and painting.

2. Must have a working knowledge of the operation of a gas chlorination system and filter system for swimming pools.

3. Must have the ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work performed by the employees under the supervision of the position.

4. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

5. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with youth in care, staff, vendors, etc. 

6. Must have a valid Florida Driver License and be able to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.

1. Must have a strong personal belief in and commitment to the programs of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches and demonstrate the ability to inspire others to the same level of commitment and belief.

4. Must have the ability to plan and organize work, with attention to detail.

5. Must be a decisive person, but able to recognize when help and consultation are needed.

6. Must have the ability to get the maximum in production and quality from employees under the supervision of the position.

7. Must be a team player.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, hear, talk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee is extensively required to use hands to fingers and reach with hands and arms.

The employee regularly lifts and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts items weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Because of the professional nature of this position and the responsibilities carried, the number of hours worked per week is flexible. A minimum of forty (40) hours is expected to carry out in full all of these duties and the schedule will be worked out with the Supervisor so that the maximum service to the Youth Ranches is obtained.

BASE SALARY

$13.75 Hourly.
